ChatGPT vs. Claude for Business: Which Fits Your Team?

ChatGPT and Claude are the two AI assistants we see most often in companies and the two we work with in our workshops. According to the vendors, neither uses your business data for training in its business plans, and both offer central administration, SSO and connections to your tools. ChatGPT Business is the broader entry point with many ready-made features, agents and EU data residency in the Enterprise tier. Claude Team shines with long documents, analysis and coding, with a large context window and Claude Code included. What decides the value in the end is less the licence than whether your team knows how to use it.
As of October 2026. Plans, prices and privacy details change constantly at both vendors. All figures below come from the official OpenAI and Anthropic pages, which we checked in October 2026. Check them again before you buy. aiworx is not tied to any vendor and does not earn from licences.
What are ChatGPT Business and ChatGPT Enterprise?
ChatGPT Business (formerly ChatGPT Team) and ChatGPT Enterprise are OpenAI's business plans. They provide a dedicated workspace for the team with central administration, shared projects, custom GPTs and agents for workflows. According to the OpenAI pricing page, ChatGPT connects to Google Workspace, Slack, GitHub and Microsoft 365, among others.
Business is intended for teams of 2 to 200 people, according to OpenAI, and can be bought online. Enterprise targets larger companies, is sold through sales and adds security and admin features, including EU data residency.
What are Claude Team and Claude Enterprise?
Claude Team and Claude Enterprise are Anthropic's business plans. They too offer a shared workspace with projects, central billing and administration. According to Anthropic's pricing page, Team is intended for 2 to 150 people and can be bought online. Enterprise is sold through sales and adds SCIM, audit logs, role-based access and custom retention controls.
Two things set Claude apart from ChatGPT in daily work: the context window is very large at up to one million tokens, so Claude can process entire contracts, manuals or datasets at once. And Claude Code, the coding tool for the terminal, is included in Team and Enterprise. Integrations, according to Anthropic, include Microsoft 365 and Outlook plus connectors for further tools.

Pricing in detail
ChatGPT Business comes with two seat types that can be combined, according to OpenAI. The pricing page lists the standard seat at $20 per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly (€21 on the German page). The premium seat with five times the usage is listed at $100, or €105. Check in the ordering process whether the euro prices are net.
ChatGPT Enterprise has no published price. OpenAI quotes custom pricing through sales.
Claude Team costs $20 per seat per month billed annually or $25 billed monthly, according to Anthropic. The premium seat with five times the usage is $100 or $125. Both seat types can be mixed. The Team plan also includes up to $500 of API credits per month, for example for your own automations. Prices are quoted in US dollars; the euro amount appears in the ordering process.
Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat per month billed annually, plus actual usage at API rates, according to Anthropic. Total cost therefore depends on how intensively your team uses Claude. Admins can set spend limits per user and for the whole organisation.
Bottom line: ChatGPT Business and Claude Team are practically level on the standard seat. More expensive than any licence is a licence nobody uses.
Data protection: what to look out for
Both vendors state clearly that your inputs in the business plans are not used to train their models. OpenAI says so for Business and Enterprise on its pricing page. Anthropic's Commercial Terms state that Anthropic may not train models on customer content. For EU customers, the contracting party is Anthropic Ireland Limited.
The biggest difference is where data is stored and processed:
- ChatGPT Enterprise offers data residency in ten regions including the EU, according to OpenAI. For companies with strict requirements on data location, that is currently the strongest argument for OpenAI.
- ChatGPT Business offers no data residency, according to the OpenAI pricing page.
- Claude Team and Enterprise offer no selectable EU data residency as of October 2026; processing runs in the US. If you need Claude with EU processing, you can use the models through AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex AI in European regions. That is a custom setup, though, not a ready-made team workspace.
For transfers to the US, both vendors rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses. The framework has been under new pressure since summer 2026; see our article on AI and data protection under the GDPR. Whichever vendor you choose, you need a data processing agreement, clear internal rules on which data may go into the AI and, depending on the use, a data protection impact assessment.
Where each assistant is strongest
The two vendors' models are close on everyday tasks such as emails, summaries or research, and the ranking changes with every new version. The differences show more in the way of working and the surroundings:
- ChatGPT has the broadest feature set: custom GPTs, agents for recurring workflows, image generation, many connectors. And many employees already know it from private use, which makes rollout easier.
- Claude is strong with long, structured texts, analysing extensive documents and coding. The large context window makes it possible to process a complete contract, a manual or a large spreadsheet at once. Teams that write code get Claude Code, a tool that works directly in projects.
In practice, what counts is less which model leads a benchmark than which tool your team actually uses with its concrete tasks.
Decision guide by company type
- Small team with lots of email, writing and research: ChatGPT Business or Claude Team, both are set up in minutes. If many in the team already use ChatGPT privately, that is often the easier start.
- Departments working with long documents: Legal, purchasing, quality management, engineering. Claude Team deserves a look here because of the large context window.
- Teams with developers or technical staff: Claude Team, because Claude Code is included and the API credits allow small automations of your own.
- Large company with strict requirements on data location and identity management: ChatGPT Enterprise with EU data residency, or Claude Enterprise if US processing with a DPA and standard contractual clauses is acceptable for you. IT security, data protection and procurement decide together here.
- Not sure: Start with a pilot group of 10 to 20 people and let them test both tools with real tasks for four weeks. After that you know which tool fits which role.
- You want to automate an entire workflow, not just support individuals: Then neither assistant alone is the answer. Workflows such as invoices or email inboxes need an AI agent that works inside your systems. More in What does AI automation cost?
Some companies use both: ChatGPT for everyone, Claude for a small group with heavy document or coding work. That costs twice, but can make sense. Clear rules on which tool is meant for which data are essential then.
Why licences without training deliver little
Many companies buy licences and wait for the effect. After a few weeks, a few enthusiasts use the AI daily and the rest hardly open it. That is rarely down to the tool. Three things are usually missing:
- Concrete use cases: Anyone who does not know what to use AI for in their role tries it once and then drops it.
- Good prompts and templates: The quality of the answers depends heavily on how you ask and what context you provide.
- Confidence in handling data: Anyone unsure about what is allowed prefers not to use the AI at all, or uses private accounts on their own.
There is also a legal duty: since 2 February 2025, companies that use AI must promote the AI literacy of their staff (Article 4 EU AI Act, as amended by the Digital Omnibus since July 2026). Our article on the AI literacy obligation explains what that means in practice.
In our workshops, we train exactly these two tools, ChatGPT and Claude, with your team's real tasks. A half day of about 4 hours costs €2,750, a full day of about 8 hours €4,950, both net. You receive a certificate of participation that covers the Article 4 obligation. The full day also includes a prompt and template library and a sample AI policy. Because we are not tied to any vendor, we will also tell you honestly if a tool is not right for you. More about our approach on the About us page.
How to introduce ChatGPT or Claude successfully
- Set a goal: Which tasks should get faster? Emails, minutes, proposals, research, analysis?
- Set data rules: Which data may be uploaded, which not? Sign a DPA, involve your data protection officer early.
- Start a pilot group: 10 to 20 people from different departments, with clear tasks for four to six weeks.
- Train before rolling out: A workshop at the start saves many weeks of trial and error.
- Measure usage: Both vendors offer usage analytics. After four weeks, check who really needs the licence.
- Publish an internal AI policy: What is allowed, what is not, who is the contact person?
Frequently asked questions
Is Claude better than ChatGPT? On everyday tasks the two are close, and the ranking changes with every model version. Claude has advantages with long documents and coding, ChatGPT with feature breadth and familiarity. Test both with your real tasks.
What does Claude cost for business? Claude Team costs $20 per seat per month billed annually, premium seats $100, according to Anthropic. Claude Enterprise costs $20 per seat plus usage at API rates. As of October 2026.
Can ChatGPT Business be used in line with the GDPR? OpenAI states that it does not use data from Business and Enterprise for training. Whether use in your company is compliant depends on the contract, the type of data and internal rules. If you need data residency in the EU, OpenAI offers it only in ChatGPT Enterprise.
Can Claude be used in line with the GDPR? According to its Commercial Terms, Anthropic does not train on customer content, the EU contracting party is Anthropic Ireland Limited, and a data processing addendum is part of the terms. Processing runs in the US, though, and the Team and Enterprise plans offer no EU data residency as of October 2026. For very sensitive data, weigh that up with your data protection officer.
Which tool does aiworx train? Both. We train ChatGPT by OpenAI and Claude by Anthropic, depending on what your team uses or plans to introduce. The basics of prompting, data protection and ways of working apply to both.
Can I automate workflows with ChatGPT or Claude? Both offer agent features, ChatGPT through workspace agents, Claude through Claude Code and the API. For workflows that connect several of your systems, need approvals and must be logged, we build custom AI agents.
